A Thank You to Our Charity Shop Volunteers

As the manager of our Red Bank Road Charity Shop, I see every day how much our volunteers give to us, and I could not be prouder of the team we have here.
There is so much more to running a charity shop than many people might realise. Every day, our volunteers open bags of donated items from the public without knowing what they might find inside.
We spin the wheel - it could be a beautiful designer coat, a vintage treasure, an unusual ornament or something that leaves us all scratching our heads in confusion!
Everything then needs to be carefully sorted, steamed, tagged and priced before it can reach the shop floor. Our volunteers also create displays, organise the rails, serve customers, keep the shop looking welcoming and somehow manage the never-ending supply of coat hangers, as well as being a friendly person for the customers to chat to.

It is busy work, but our teams in all three of our shops are patient, kind and have a wonderful sense of humour.
I am incredibly proud of the money our shop raises for animals in need. Every item donated and every purchase made helps to provide food, shelter, veterinary treatment and care for the animals at Longview Animal Centre.
Our shop is also an important connection between the charity and our local community. It gives us the opportunity to talk to customers about the animals who are currently at Longview and raise awareness of the work taking place.
It is not only about raising money. Our shop also helps people learn more about the work of their local RSPCA branch and the difference their support makes. Every conversation is an opportunity to raise awareness and help more animals.
Our volunteers may sometimes feel that they are sorting clothes, pricing teapots or searching the stockroom for a missing box of Christmas decorations, but what they do is actually really much more than the shop floor, sometimes forgetting that their hard work supports animals across our local area.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who gives their time to help us. Your energy, commitment and good humour mean an enormous amount to me, to the rest of the team and, most importantly, to the animals who benefit from everything we raise.
I could not do this without our volunteers. They are the heart of the shop, and I hope they know just how valued and appreciated they are.
Thank you for everything you do.
Jayne - Manager at Red Bank Road Charity Shop
